Friday racing at the Eastern Canadian Ski Championships in Gatineau cancelled due to Polar Vortex
Friday’s racing events at the Eastern Canadian X-C Ski Championships at Nakkertok Ski Centre in Gatineau have been cancelled. The events, presented by Tourisme Outaouais and Gatineau pour la Vie are bringing together over 670 skiers from across Eastern Canada, including the next generation of Canadian Olympians. The cold temperatures forecast for Friday, -24 degrees as a high, has caused the Jury and Event organizers to cancel the first of 3 days of racing.
For the health of the athletes, the rules for Olympic style competition permit racing only at temperatures above -20 deg. C.
The Jury will make a decision on Friday afternoon as to whether the events scheduled for Saturday will be held and/or modified to meet the requisite temperature restrictions.
On a more positive note, it looks like the race schedule for Sunday will not be affected.
